What is the DTxTP?

The Dancehall Theatre Exchange & Training Program (DTxTP) is a professional development platform.

The first program was held in february 2014 in London.

It is an intensive 5 day course which provides participants with authentic knowledge about Dancehall technique, history and culture.  The program also includes Dancehall Theatre sessions and focus on exploring choreographic and theatrical devices to tell stories through Dancehall.

The DTxTP organised in London in February 2014 was a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to train with the founders of multi-award-winning Jamaican Dancehall crew Shady Squad (straight from Jamaica!!!), UK based Dancehall Theatre choreographer/director Cindy Claes; and guest teachers H Patten and Funmi Adewole.

The program was intense, the level was high, sweat dropped on the floor and students learned from amazing artists who had a wealth of experience to share.

The DTxTP aims to support dancers, choreographers (emerging or established) and dance teachers within their practice.

The course is aimed at:

  • young graduates
  • intermediate & advanced students who want to make a career within the arts
  • emerging dance artists who want to include Dancehall within their practice
  • professional dancers / more established choreographers
  • dance teachers

Our first training program took place from MON 3rd FEB 2014 until FRI 7th FEB 2014, 10am-5.30pm, every day, at Husky Studios (29a Amelia Street, SE17 3PY London).
